Driving License Category A1
Driving License Category A1 permits you to drive two-wheeled motorized vehicles. It permits you to drive mopeds and small motorcycles that have engines with a power output of no more than 11 kW.
The process to get this licence is slightly different than other categories. Let's go over the steps:..
Prerequisites
You need to be at minimum 16 years old to obtain a driving licence category A1. This licence allows the driver to operate on a motorcycle that is light, while A2 and A are reserved for larger motor vehicles. You also must complete a first aid course and complete theoretical training in accordance with the entire syllabus. This is offered through a variety of driving schools. The prices may vary however they all follow the same curriculum.
The practical training comprises several driving lessons. These classes are between three and four hours each. The instructors will teach you the basics of your motorcycle and the fundamental rules of the road. The number of training hours is contingent on your level of ability and your learning progress, but the syllabus calls for a minimum of 5 training hours on federal roads and four hours of instruction on country roads. You are also required to attend various special riding lessons, which are designed to help you improve your ability to handle difficult situations.
Anyone who plans to drive vehicles in category C must have a driver's license of category B or above. Someone who already holds a category B licence is able to continue the training of category A1 by following an abbreviated course but must pass at least ten theory and ten driving lessons at a driving school. This is not possible for people who holds an A licence, which is why the instruction for this category begins at an earlier age.
Driving License Category A1 is an excellent option for teenagers or adults who are driving but want to try something different. The restrictions that apply to this type of license are designed to ensure the safety of everyone involved. You can remove them if you can prove that you are able to drive larger vehicles safely.
In addition to having a valid driver's license in addition, you must have a medical certificate. Based on your medical condition, you may be required to take an eye exam or other tests. You may also upgrade your license by adding an endorsement. This usually requires passing a knowledge test and sometimes, a skills test.
Training
In order to obtain a Driving License Category A1, you must pass both the theory and practical test. Additionally you will need to attend the theoretical classes and receive training. The training will teach you the fundamental principles of motorcycling and traffic regulations, which you will then be able to apply in your future driving. During the course, you will be familiar with the test materials that are general to all tests, as well as the addition that includes the specific requirements for the licence category.
After having passed the theory and practical test, you are allowed to drive a vehicle up to 125cc. This includes motorcycles without a sidecar, tricycles and mopeds with three or four wheels. The vehicle must not weigh more than 400kg when unloaded or be able to support a load of up to 750kg. You must also be 16 years old to be able to obtain a license in this category.
It is possible to upgrade from Category A1 to a full Category A driver's licence at the age of 20 if you had a subcategory A2 driver's licence for two years. This allows you to drive vehicles of the maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 750kg as well as subcategory A and A1 motorbikes. For instance in Germany after two years of experience in Category A1 motorbikes that have that are up to 11 kW You only need to pass a practice test and not a theory test when upgrading to category A2. Similarly, in Austria after five years of education (with the total time of 9x1.5 hours), it is possible to pass the test for a full A licence.
